For most children the thought of brushing their teeth is one they don’t want to do. However, when they eat lots of junk such as candy, sugar and snacks, their teeth will start to become compromised leading to cavities and other dental issues. This is why dentistry for children lynwood and the process of learning these habits is such a good idea.
Demonstrate
Kids learn by watching. This means that you demonstrate what it is you want them to do and have them repeat it. To do this, take them into the bathroom and show them what a toothbrush is, how to get it wet, put on toothpaste and more. Once they do this, show them the next step of brushing their teeth, spitting into the sink and wiping their mouth with a towel.
Through demonstration kids will quickly pick up on the process. You will want to guide them to ensure that they are performing the basic steps correctly but allow them to do the process in their own way. Once they have completed the process praise them and let them know they did a good thing. If they know that this is a good behavior, they will repeat it.
It is important that we take these steps and move forward with them to teach our children good dental habits. Having them deal with dentists is not going to be a productive activity.
Find custom brushes and toothpaste
A great way to get children into brushing is to allow them to pick out their own brushes and toothpaste. For younger children finding something that represents a cartoon character or a toothpaste that changes their teeth different colors, will be a great motivator to get kids dedicated to brushing.
Brushing is a learned activity, teach your children how to brush early and they will apply these habits to other parts of their lives as well.
